Life's Ups and Downs; Enjoy It.

 Two years ago in March 2024, Takerufuji won the March Basho . he was celebrated because he was the first rookie to do so in over a 100 years. It looked like a huge deal. I guess it was since it had not been done in that long time. There were lots of talks about the promising future that lay ahead of Takerufuji. He was out with an injury and got back. The thing with Sumo is that when you are out, you fall down the ranks. People Can't Stand a Taste of Their Own Medicine

 I saw a video today of a fight that reminded me of something I learned some years ago: people can't stand a taste of their own medicine. This video is the Haru Basho Day 10 match between Wakanosho and Nishikifuji. Waskanasho has put on an impressive performance in Juryo so far.   video courtesy of Facebook's Sumosumosumo.   Wakanosho starts with a thrusting Tsuppari attack and drives Nishikifuji to the edge. It looked like he was going to get Nishikifuji out but somehow, Nishikifuji is able to start a Tsuppari attack on his own and drive Wakanosho to the opposite side and then gets him out.  I also noticed this in the last Basho when I think Kirishima and/or another person did a Sakatottari on another rikishi. The person was going to do a tottari and they countered it with one of their own.  In real life, I've had the situation where people who were making loud noise could not stand it when another person did that. Life Lessons From Sumo (大相撲)

I have had a personal document where I write down life lessons from Sumo . Basically things I've noticed about life that I see exemplified in sumo in some way or form. Yesterday, I thought to start cataloging them down by blogging. After catching up on today's final bout, I was doing an analysis and decided to write. A lot of times, I write the lessons as I watch during the tournament but I think I may share some of what I've learned in the past on this blog. Sometimes, the lessons are from watching something Sumo related like Dosukoi Sumo Salon or even from a Hometown Stories episode on NHK that featured the sport. Writing them here provides a way for me to have them all in one place where I can easily find them by tags. It also allows me to add on without having a long document.  Aonishiki won the January tournament . It was not an easy win. He won again by a playoff. Congratulations to him. I was clapping for him.
